Cryptids are creatures whose existence is not substantiated by mainstream science but are often reported in folklore and urban legends. However, documentation of Cryptids are heavy, long with evidence that they do exist. Here are some notable examples of the types of Cryptids found within the US: Mothman: First reported in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, in the 1960s, Mothman is described as a humanoid figure with large wings and glowing red eyes. Sightings often precede disasters, leading some to consider Mothman a harbinger of doom. Though cases have lessened over the years, some have still reported seeing him throughout West Virginia. There is also a possible connection to Mothman being apart of a family of larger insectlike Cryptids. (I.E.; Butterfly People, Garson Invaders, Mimi, Deathcrawlers). Sasquatch: These creatures are said to inhabit forests, mountains, and caves across North America, with the most popular sighting being of an entity known as "Bigfoot". Reports describe them as a large, hairy, ape-like being. While many consider it a myth, numerous sightings and footprints have fueled ongoing investigations. Other examples consist of entities like Yetis, The Batsquatch, The Grassman, and more recently, several sightings of The Lockridge Monster. [REDACTED]: You know why I put this under redacted. Don't say it's name, don't think of it's name, do not, under any circumstance, attempt to find this entity. Lycanthrope: With folklore dating back to regions in Europe, Lycanthrope are those who can transition from beast to man, or vice versa. Common Lycanthrope are known as Werewolves, while some have been documented all over the world, the more common known entities resemble different types of beasts. The most recent sighting being the Goatman. Different folklore and legends tell us how they come to be, what the transition is like, and how to kill them, but most of the documentation is hard to put into one category. Silver Bullets seem to be a common thing throughout each case though. Most Lycanthropes transition during the full moon period, though that is not always the case, as some have been documented to transition by will. The Faceless: A more recent entity within the Cryptid sphere. This entity appears to only be one, instead of a collection of entities, as each documentation relates to a very tall man that appears to not have a face. First being documented in Germany under the name "Der Ritter", more cases have only been documented (and even filmed encounters) of this entity only recently, with the introduction of sites like YouTube and Creepypasta. His goals are not entirely known, as some cases report him taking children, he appears to also bring in others to use as proxies, perhaps in a way to seek out new victims. Though he goes by many names, such as The Operator, The Slenderman, and The Keeper, we will continue to call him The Faceless, just in case there is more than one. He is unique, as his tall, tree like apperance makes him blend in with forests easily. Over the years, he has been documented wearing different styles of clothing to blend in, the more common is a black suit. And of cource, his most unique appearance, as he appears to be completely faceless. It's hard getting any information on this entity, as sightings have only been more rare over time. Sea Cryptids: A more worldly entity, documentation is clear on the existance of larger creatures being spotted within the sea, ocean, and other forms of large bodies of water. The most famous being found in Loch Ness. Some of these entities range from peaceful to hostile, even dating back to mythology with entities like "The World Serpant", and "The Kraken". More recently with scientific discovery and advancement, more entities have been discovered, documented, and recorded, such as The Giant Squid, and an unnamed entity known as The Giant Jellyfish. Research continues to be large with these types of entities, ranging from different countries, regions, and even otherworldly. More information will be added with more documentation.
